For the first time in 17 years, The Cure will be returning to South America in April, making it the first large scale tour of the continent for the band. The tour will include seven concerts in the continent, as well as a one off show in Mexico City.
The band formally announced the tour on its website today, with Robert Smith issuing the following statement:
“We are deliriously happy to be coming back to South America at last – we have been away for far too long! We will be playing 3+ hour shows, and have every intention of making this the most memorable Cure Tour EVER!
Aside from two shows in Brazil in 1996, The Cure has not played South America since the Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me tour in 1987, where they only played Brazil and Argentina.
The tour kicks off April 4 in Rio de Janeiro and ends in Bogota April 19. The one off show in Mexico City is two days later on April 21.
