Let me tell you something about Central Wisconsin local radio stations: they suck. All of them for as long as I can remember, or at least once I turned 14 and wanted to look for something else other than country, shit rock, top 40, and droning talk radio. Every once in awhile, though, a diamond would be found in the rough. One of these glimmering diamonds was Leonard Cohen’s “Everybody Knows”. Surprisingly, it was our rock station that would periodically play this song. It was odd, because it didn’t seem to fit any of the local radio in the Central Wisconsin area, save for maybe the college radio station.
It wouldn’t be until my college years that I would take the next step and listen to more of Cohen’s works. I was a bit bummed when I listened to some of his first albums, since they weren’t as dark, synthesized, and lacking other elements that piqued my interest in Leonard Cohen to begin with. The music isn’t bad by any means, quite the opposite… I was just caught off guard.
Enjoy this song, it’s from Cohen’s album I’m Your Man.
