To some degree, I’ve always been a Depeche Mode fan. I can’t say when I started really getting into them, but I do remember hearing “Enjoy the Silence” on local radio from time to time while growing up. When Exciter was released, I still remember seeing the video for “Dream On” for the first time. It’s a great song, but at the time it didn’t really strike me as compelling nor did I appreciate the significance of new releases from Depeche Mode.
It was until the release of Playing the Angel, and the release of the single “Precious” that sparked my attention. For me, Playing the Angel was Depeche Mode’s glorious comeback album and “Precious” was the evidence of that return. The single not only excited my interest in Depeche Mode, but it also awakened me internally. The significance of this album in my everyday life, in retrospect, is tremendous.
Even better was the fact that I got to hear this song live at Lollapalooza 2009, a sacred experience indeed.
For all of you Depeche Mode fans out there, I can post my Lollapalooza 2009 photos on here if you like.
