Recently, I was recommended to check out a song Those City Lights called “Requiem (Sophie’s Song)”. “Requiem” is the second single from Those City Lights and is a track dedicated to Sophie, a friend of the band who was murdered for the way she looked.
All proceeds made from the track go to the Sophie Foundation, created by Sophie’s mother to raise awareness of prejudice in society. The track can be purchased for 50pence GBP (approximately $0.78 USD) on the Those City Lights Bandcamp page.
The track opens with a very mellow piano, with the sound of a storm in the background, followed by a guitar and minimal percussion that not only build the song up, but add to the melancholy mood the song inhibits. The song, even without the background sounds, would be perfect for a rainy or dreary day, when settling in the house for the day feels like the best option. Portions of the track remind me of “Follow the Cops Back Home” by Placebo at emit the mood associated with that song. Overall, definitely worth the listen and worth purchasing.
